Casting Cares Through Prayer

Casting Cares Through Prayer

How healthy is your prayer life? Does God know when you are afraid of that test result? Does He know when you are overjoyed because you are expecting a baby? Do you ever offer a prayer just to talk about your day at work?

“O Lord, I call to you; come quickly to me. Hear my voice when I call to you” (Psalm 141:1).

I love this Psalm of David because he shares what is on his heart and what so many of us want to say. “Hey God, I am talking to you! I need you now!” Prayer does not require some magical formula or special words. Prayer is about talking to God.

God’s Word says to pray all the time (1Thesalonians 5:17). He wants us to make Him apart of our day through prayer. He also wants to be involved in the big things, the little things and the in-between things in our life. Nothing is too hard for our God (Jeremiah 32:27), nor is it too small either. In my prayer life, I have cried out to God in my pain and talked to Him about what makes me happy. He has been there each and every time to quiet my anxious thoughts, to be a listening ear, to celebrate with me and to offer guidance.

David reiterates the fact that we can go to God in prayer with whatever is troubling us, over in Psalm 55:22, “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.” Then, Peter encourages us to do the same in 1 Peter 5:7, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

God cares about all of His children. Although He knows what we are going to ask even before it leaves our lips (Matthew 6:8), He wants to hear it coming from our hearts. The next time something happens in your little corner of the world, no matter how big or small, remember to go to Him in prayer, ask Him to come to you and to hear your voice. God is faithful, He will come.
